Pu (Bruce) Zhang

Ph.D. Student (MAE, G5)

Bruce(Pu) Zhang is a graduate student who joined the Soft Biomatter Lab in Fall 2023. He is continuing his work on engineering modular biomaterials and systems to better understand and control angiogenesis in 3D. Bruce earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture. Subsequently, he pursued a Master’s in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Virginia. During his graduate research, Bruce Zhang collaborated with the Department of Surgery to develop a novel method for treating Type I diabetes by utilizing a microfluidic platform to microencapsulate islet cells. Outside of his time in the lab, Bruce pursues his interests in outdoor activities, including hiking with his dog and exploring scenic routes on motorcycle rides.
